Cemetery Walks
Juliana Laury returns to Ravensgate for her third installment of an annual art collection titled “Cemetery Walks”.
She uses large scale vintage frames as an unlikely container for a material called “encaustic” (a mixture of beeswax and resin) which has historically been used as a painting medium, however, in 2020 Juliana began to reimagine it by pouring it, and has since unlocked new possibilities which she brings to this body of work.
The cemetery walks series is a vehicle for talking about death in a modern age. As a mother of three young children, Juliana uses peaceful walks in cemeteries in order to destigmatize an inherent fact of life for both her sons and herself. This show will integrate both spoken and framed poetry to further stretch the conversation between the various meaning-making languages we are given at birth.
The opening reception for Cemetery Walks 2024 is Friday, September 6th from 6-8pm. There will be a poetry reading at 7pm by Juliana and Vincent Tavani.
RETRO July Show
In honor of Blobfest and our town’s wacky history, our July group show’s theme is RETRO! Opening reception will be July 5th from 6-8pm.
ARTIST(S)
ARTIST(S) is an interactive show centered around the delightful surprises that happen when artists collaborate.
For the last year, a group of Phoenixville artists have been meeting a few times a month at a local studio for “art nights”. The only goal for our evenings, beyond socializing (which sometimes is all we do) is to make art that isn’t for work. Most of us are professionals in our field, and it is easy to forget that we need space to play and explore for our art to grow. These sessions led naturally to collaborative pieces, where we would pass drawings back and forth between ourselves. Through this game, we realized how much potential there was in working with one another and how our own art grew and was challenged by what the other artists brought to the table. Inspired, we wanted to bring this game to you.
ARTIST(S) will feature a selection of work created during our art nights, as well as other collaborative projects from the members of our group. Most exciting, however, will be the work we — and I mean you, too — make together during this show. A canvas and art supplies will be available for collaboration throughout the entire month of June. Anyone is welcome to work on it and we will document how the canvas evolves while it’s on our wall. Come visit throughout the month to see it change and add your own marks! Let it remind you that art is fun, and playful, and is better when we do it together.
The opening reception for ARTIST(S) is June 7th from 6-8pm.

"Male Works" - A solo exhibition by Keith David Trievel
KEITH DAVID TRIEVEL born July 13th, 1954 in Royersford, where he currently resides.
"An instructor at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art once told me if we can draw the human figure properly, we can draw anything. I never forgot that. No matter how many other paintings I do of natural subjects, local landscapes or abstracts, I always come back to the male form. There is an emotional connection to it that I seldom experience with other work. It just feels different while I am making it. My paintings are created using a combination of acrylic on canvas, bonded tissue, and ink drawing, which I developed while in art school and is now my signature style. Some have said it is reminiscent of fresco, mosaic or stained glass. I prefer the male figure because it's what I know and because the male musculature works better with my technique. My subjects often appear to be emerging from darkness into light... perhaps a metaphor for my life and artistic journey. "
This collection of work will be on display at Ravensgate for the month of July, with an opening reception on Friday, July 7th from 6-8 pm.
Imprinted Reception
Imprinted
Opening Reception: 6/2/23 from 6-8pm
We are hosting a show recognizing the influence of Phoenixville printmaker, Gillian Pokalo. Gillian's artwork and teaching have had a significant impact on the creative community of Phoenixville. She taught countless classes at the art center and generously shared her printmaking knowledge with many students. Her classes, originally taught where our shop is today, were a strong connecting thread in forming the current Phoenixville art community. Gillian is off to share her printmaking knowledge with more parts of the world, but before she leaves we are hosting a show that gives a glimpse of her mark on our community. This gallery show features work made by just a handful of her many former students. Please join us on 5/2/23 from 6-8pm to celebrate the imprint Gillian Pokalo has made in Phoenixville.
